The meaning behind Satsang

Satsang is a Sanskrit word that means "gathering together for the truth" or, more simply, "being with the truth."

Sat + Sang = Satsang. By merging the two terms, the meaning of Satsang is derived. The term Sat implies four significance:

  1. The God
  2. Saints who has entirely surrendered to God
  3. Dharma asserted by God Himself and his favourite saints
  4. The Scriptures wherein these three above mentioned are prescribed

Truth is what is real, what exists. So all there is, is Truth. Whenever something increases your experience of the Truth, it opens your Heart and quiets your mind. Conversely, whenever something, such as a thought, fear, or judgment, limits or narrows your experience of the Truth, the Heart contracts and the mind gets busier.

The term "sang" means association, which is made by body, action, and mind.

Lord Swaminarayan has installed His own form so the worshippers can meditate upon the same form as His Pratiskya rupa.

Lord Swaminarayan established a foundation of satsang. With such a foundation, we can find many saints who have absolutely renounced the contact of female and personal wealth. If we identify such saints and associate with them then we would have fulfilled the second aspect of Satsang.

A significant part of the task is to know the right conduct. To find our general or specific religious duties we can go to Shikshapatri. It explains our duties in simple terms and not only that but it has been composed by Lord Swaminarayan Himself.

Holy Scriptures which are consistent and supporting the first three aspects described above which we available to us.

When we have association to these four elements in our actions, in our thoughts, in our words then we are really worthy of being called "Satsangi". Such Satsang is very dear to God and pleases Him.
